The question box here was set to look unique instead of the typical box and floating answer boxes. The top most box was used to hold questions and the wheel holds the smaller answer boxes, four in each cardinal direction.

The race box was made to have the name box set up like an embellished checkered flag with a different-colored square to place the name text. The circle on the right holds the character's image as the rectangle on the left is to hold the position.

The turbo button was used as a boost when the play answered correctly. Originally, there were three lights that fill up with color before the red turbo button lights up. I had a few options of how the turtle would look.

HUD beta. The question box and wheel was offset from the center and the time table was set on the right. The race box went through some changes, particularly the name box and the circle. The turbo box dropped the three lights from the earlier design.

The time tables were moved to the bottom of the screen along with the placement and lap number. The question box and answer wheel was set in the center, and the pause button was placed on the top right corner.

Layout beta. At this point, the assets have been changed: the arrows are more simplified, and the trophies were changed to a turtle shell instead of the cup.

Although the appearance of the finished level select looked similar to the earlier design, there are obvious color changes, namely the buttons and text. There are also check boxes for options.

The star grade was moved to the End Race Results (or ERR) screen. The graphic used for the ERR takes up the entire screen instead of it running through the middle.

I was also tasked to create background assets for the race tracks and use them to create backdrops for the level select. This is the Forest Level Select Backdrop

During the Customization feature's development, I made an illustrated backdrop to provide atmosphere. Prototype text boxes were provided and a color wheel with a "pointer". The lily pad was used as the "stage" for the turtle to be customize.

The display was set differently back when the game was first released. The space above the turtle was enough to enlarge the color scroll, the currency and the decals.

In an updated version of the game, the illustrated backdrop was removed, added a title to this section, and a prompt to name the turtle. The size for the scrolling decals was adjusted. The placements for the turtle and customization assets were switched.

Tortuga Racing (2017)

Created by Luminosity Mobile LLC, Tortuga Racing is an isometric math-racing game that can be played on the phone and tablet. It is aimed at elementary school-aged children as well as parents who want to brush up on their math skills.

I was tasked to design the UI in vibrant and playful ways and give them to the programmer to set up the game's layout. I also created the game's logo, level assets and other 2D artwork.
